In November 2010, JCDI partnered with UNDP to provide technical assistance to the Sokoto State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SOSACAT). The focus was on gender, human rights, and the reduction of stigma and discrimination faced by people living with HIV/AIDS.
JCDI established a technical working group for civil society organizations and developed a personnel action plan aimed at promoting rights-based approaches to HIV response. This plan included strategies for reducing workplace discrimination, supporting women affected by HIV, and protecting vulnerable groups from abuse.
The project also included advocacy visits to policymakers and key stakeholders to ensure that gender and human rights considerations were integrated into state-level HIV policies. This approach gave marginalized voices a platform and strengthened the capacity of civil society to champion inclusivity.
The initiative left a legacy of stronger governance structures and demonstrated JCDI’s role not just in direct service delivery but also in shaping enabling environments for equitable development.
