PRO ACT & OVC Program (Yabo) — using NOMIS software

From November 2015 to October 2017, JCDI was part of the PRO ACT and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) program in Yabo LGA. The initiative, funded by Management Sciences for Health (MSH) through USAID, aimed at providing comprehensive support to families affected by HIV/AIDS, with a focus on orphans, vulnerable children, and their caregivers.

The program introduced the use of the NOMIS software to manage OVC data and streamline referrals across different service providers. By leveraging technology, JCDI ensured that children and families received timely access to health, education, nutrition, and psychosocial support. This integrated service delivery model helped address multiple vulnerabilities simultaneously.

Community caregivers were trained to provide home-based support, while local leaders were engaged to reduce stigma and discrimination against children and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Schools were also involved to encourage continuous learning and reduce dropout rates among affected children.

This project strengthened the social protection system in Yabo, creating a safety net for children who might otherwise have been left behind. It also reinforced the importance of data-driven programming in scaling up effective interventions for vulnerable populations.
