Malaria IPC — Tureta (Acomin)

Between November 2015 and December 2017, JCDI implemented the Malaria Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) project in Tureta LGA under the support of Acomin. The project targeted communities where malaria was a persistent public health threat, particularly for children under five and pregnant women who are the most vulnerable.

The intervention emphasized both prevention and treatment. JCDI mobilized community health volunteers and trained them to conduct sensitization sessions on the use of insecticide-treated nets, early care-seeking behavior, and the importance of antenatal visits for pregnant women. Demonstrations and interactive discussions were held in local markets, mosques, and schools to ensure the widest possible reach.

In addition, health facilities were supported with malaria prevention materials and improved diagnostic and treatment capacity. The community-based approach made it possible to address misconceptions around malaria and strengthen trust in health facilities.

This project left a lasting impact by improving community knowledge, reducing malaria incidence, and strengthening linkages between health facilities and the populations they serve. It also demonstrated the power of combining community-driven education with formal health services to combat endemic diseases.
