In 2023, JCDI initiated and directly funded a life-changing project to empower 60 adolescent girls across Sokoto South and Sokoto North LGAs. Many young girls in these areas face barriers such as poverty, limited access to education, and early marriage, all of which hinder their ability to live full and independent lives. To tackle these challenges, the project provided financial grants ranging from ₦5,000 to ₦15,000 to help adolescent girls start or expand small-scale businesses.

The intervention was not merely about distributing funds but about giving these girls a pathway to economic independence. Prior to receiving support, the girls were sensitized on basic financial literacy, business management, and the importance of saving and reinvesting their profits. This approach ensured that the funds were used responsibly and sustainably. The program also emphasized the value of education, encouraging beneficiaries to remain in school while running their small businesses.

By supporting adolescent girls with both resources and guidance, JCDI sought to break the cycle of poverty that often traps young women. Beneficiaries engaged in small-scale trading, tailoring, food processing, and other income-generating activities suited to their local environments. Some were able to support their families, pay school fees, and contribute to household expenses—boosting their self-esteem and status within their communities.

The 60 Girls Empowerment Project demonstrated that even modest financial support, when combined with mentoring, can dramatically transform the lives of young women. It also strengthened community appreciation for the role of adolescent girls in economic development and set a strong foundation for future programs targeting youth empowerment and gender equality.
