LLIN distribution & Malaria prevention (Goronyo) / State participation

Malaria continues to be one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Sokoto State, especially among women and children. In response, JCDI partnered with state and national agencies to conduct malaria prevention projects, including the distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) and Artemisinin-based Combination Therapies (ACTs).

One notable campaign was conducted in Goronyo LGA in December 2013, under the National Malaria Elimination Programme. JCDI was responsible for community mobilization, demand creation, and house-to-house distribution of LLINs. This approach ensured that nets reached even the most remote households and that families understood the importance of consistent use.

Beyond Goronyo, JCDI participated in state-wide ITN and ACT distribution programs, ensuring that 92 health facilities across Sokoto State received supplies. JCDI also engaged in awareness campaigns that emphasized proper net usage, environmental sanitation, and early treatment-seeking behavior for suspected malaria cases.

The malaria prevention projects underscored JCDI’s commitment to public health and its ability to manage large-scale community mobilization efforts. By combining distribution with education, these initiatives significantly contributed to reducing malaria burden in target communities.
